The social support of the health team to mothers from pregnancy offers numerous benefits to the dyad. It enhances the likelihood of initiating and sustaining breastfeeding and increases growth measures in children with child malnutrition. To assess the effect of a multidisciplinary program aimed at pregnant women in institutions assisting families with child malnutrition on children's growth measures after birth. Twenty-seven mothers and children up to 12 months old who attend the “Madre Teresa de Calcuta” Center for nutritional recovery and the Center for the Prevention of Child Malnutrition "El Plumerillo", (CONIN-Mendoza Model Centers), participated in the study. The growth measures of babies born to mothers who attended the prenatal program were compared with those of mothers who did not attend the program. The children's growth data were obtained from medical records. The children of mothers who attended the program during pregnancy showed an increase in z-scores for head circumference, weight for age, height for age, and weight for height, compared to the control group. The results indicate that program attendance and social support to mothers from pregnancy by the healthcare team could be relevant factors for the prevention and treatment of child malnutrition. It is necessary to analyze each component of the program and the role of breastfeeding education in the observed outcomes to strengthen its effectiveness.
