Remote sensing is a valuable methodological process for analyzing and studying the distribution of spatial-temporal phenomena and processes in the territory. From a systemic and Environmental Geography perspective, monitoring allows us to address spatial manifestations with spatial, temporal, and multiscale resolution, which enriches the study of environmental issues. Synthetic Aperture RADAR (SAR) images in synergy allow for the characterization and monitoring of environments, as they are sensitive to the structural and dielectric characteristics of the elements of the Earth's surface. This study proposes to characterize a lagoon environment and its wetlands through the backscattering parameter. Principal component analysis was performed on a set of Sentinel 1 C images, resulting in differentiation between the first and second components that indicate potential wetlands for other land uses. This territorial information is crucial to understanding the functionality of the study area's environment within the framework of risk, vulnerability, and threat studies.
