The absorption of fine recycled aggregates (FRA) is mentioned as the property that most affects the performance of FRA concrete. Worldwide the most used and standardized method is the frustoconical mold. However, when the aggregates have a high dust content and/or angular shapes, the effectiveness of the method is reduced, originating a great deal of questioning in the literature since the 1970s. Since then, and particularly with the interest of using FRA in concrete production, different alternative methods have emerged, which overcome the drawbacks in aggregates with the previously indicated characteristics. This study analyzes comparatively various methods proposed to determine the FRA absorption. From the results, a great variability of the water absorption determined by different methods emerges, being the electric method and the continuous drying method the ones that present the greatest potential for the determination of the actual absorption.
