The article focuses on the work of childcare assistants who work in a crèche recently opened within a prison nursery where detained mothers live with their babies. Based on ethnographic research, the text seeks to highlight the particularities of the work of the auxiliaries in this constrained space, where mothers and babies live permanently. Two dimensions are highlighted: the difficulties of the work linked to the imposition of extrinsic and restrictive institutional and hierarchical logics and the redeployment of the work by the childcare assistants, giving rise to original practices, adapted to the particularities of the environment.
