Water from Pampichuelas Stream (Concepción, Catamarca) is used for human consumption, irrigation, and local livestock farming. Its physicochemical and biological quality—assessed up to 2017 using biotic indices—was classified as excellent. Since 2020, the construction of a road running along the stream has represented a potential source of habitat alteration that may affect the ecological characteristics of aquatic invertebrate assemblages. This study aimed to characterize the aquatic arthropod community in a section of the stream, both structurally and functionally, and to assess water quality using biological metrics together with ecological and biotic indices. Field sampling was conducted during the low-water season in June 2024 and June 2025. Channel morphometric characteristics and physicochemical water parameters were recorded. Aquatic arthropod samples were collected using a D-net, and the organisms were identified to the family level. A total of 1,841 arthropods representing 13 orders and 35 families were recorded. The best-represented taxa in both years were Elmidae (Coleoptera) and Chironomidae (Diptera). Collector and predator functional feeding groups predominated, with predominantly clinger and miner habits. The high abundance of taxa sensitive to organic pollution, together with the values obtained for the ecological indices (Shannon diversity, H’; Simpson dominance, D) and biotic indices (BMWP’, ASPT’, and IBF), indicated that the stream water was very clean, of good quality, and unimpacted. These data provide a baseline for future studies.
