This article deals with conflicts about land tenure at the present stage of the ending of the agrarian frontier in Misiones (Arg.). It includes a description of the practical logic run by small farmers for dealing with occupation of public and private lands. It also considers the strategic ways of land-struggle proposed by the NGOs, (some of which are connected to the Catholic Church). In that respect, while the NGOs principles emphasize the confrontation between landless peasants and landlords, occupant's practical logic attempts to avoid it. Non-planned settlements represent a specific feature of agrarian structure in Misiones, according to the dynamics of family agriculture. In this situation the Government does not lead the land occupation process. This article contrasts farmer's practices and NGO's strategies, and focuses in the complexity implied by the constitution of the landless peasants as a social class in this context.
