The increasing incidence of obesity in México has been accompanied by the supply of a wide range of herbal therapies. The aims were to investigate: 1- the richness of plant products for weight loss that are marketed in a metro of Mexico City; and 2- the average ranking of sale in relation to explanatory variables of market preferences. Free listing techniques were conducted with traders and the information were analyzed by means of nonparametric statistics. The sellers mentioned 40 plant products, 57.5% of these have trade names that suggestively refer to an immediate and/or safe weight loss. The total richness of declared components is 75 species. Most of the products offer little similar herbal blends. Products in a higher position in an average ranking are those that include more components and more global use species. We highlight the need for greater controls to verify the quality and safety of slimming products.
