This paper reviews and critically analyzes what has been called the “soybean development model in Argentina”. Here, we describe its spurious origin and the various consequences that it has generated both in the agrarian structure of the country as well as in the society and the environment. Evidences of the most relevant impacts of that farming model are also presented, and we describe the lack of policies oriented to alleviate these impacts from the government. Additionally, the emerging actions of resistance to this agricultural production system, which are observed in different regions of the country, are described, and the alternatives proposed that socio-environmental movements have been promoting are rescued.
