Although territorial characterizations are available, the data present theoretical and scale limitations for the investigation of agrarian landscapes in the Puna region of Jujuy province (Argentina). In general, available productivity models tend to underestimate the potential and/or development of agricultural practices in this region. Therefore, this paper presents an agricultural productivity model for the Puna region, whose parameters were evaluated in terms of traditional Andean production techniques and highland crops. The variables altitude, soils, hydrology, net primary aerial productivity (PPNA), slope and geomorphological orientation were weighted. The model obtained was evaluated based on current and archeological evidence of cultivated fields; and the results were compared with the Productivity Index (PI) map developed by INTA. As a result, an agricultural productivity model was obtained that is consistent with the available evidence of present and past agricultural fields. This model can be downloaded for its implementation in the archaeological prospection of productive sites and/or readjustment according to other variables and objectives.
