Following the trajectories of four female non-commissioned officers of the Argentine Navy, in this paper I show how the changes that have taken place in the professional lives of women since their entry into the institution in the 1980s have been marked by the impossibility of being able to embark for most of their careers. Naval socialization processes differ from the rest of the Armed Forces because the construction of their collective identity requires and demands a ship at sea. My objective is to explore the effects that the lack of sailing generates in the careers of female Navy NCOs.
