After the consolidation of the so-called progressive governments in the region (Sader, 2009), Latin America experienced a significant change of era (Svampa, 2008). In Argentina, many social movements were incorporated into the structure of the State, and politically they adhered to the Kirchner governments, reissuing the classic dilemma of social movements towards the State suggested by Unger (1987). The following paper reviews three representative ideological traditions of contemporary social movements, regarding the suggested dilemma: Marxist, National-popular and Autonomist traditions. As a result, a glance of synthesis between the construction of the movements and state power is reached.
