In this article we will share the main findings of the research project Cartografía de géneros periodísticos y procesos productivos en periódicos regionales del interior de la Provincia de Córdoba (Argentina), approved and subsidized by the Secretariat of Science y Tecnología (Secyt) of the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC). To carry it out, we used a qualitative methodology oriented towards a case study, based on the analysis of publications and the collection of testimonies of journalists and editors. In this framework, we found that the coverage (as a priority and almost exclusively) of issues of the community where they are inserted defines, to a large extent, the news agenda and, consequently, the identity of these newspapers. News, short chronicles, interviews and life stories are the most common genres, typologies that - it should be noted - confer a central role to the sources of information, which are - in these cases - the neighbors of these populations. At the same time, it is these small towns, mainly through small advertisers, which give them economic support and legitimacy.
