This article aims to make visible the production of sociological theory by women in the central countries in the second half of the twentieth century. It analyzes the theoretical, academic and militant practices of eleven internationally recognized women sociologists and understands and explains them in relation to their positions, trajectories and conditions of production. In particular, it investigates the impact of their gender condition in relation to other conditioning factors such as race and social class. The methodological theoretical approach used combines a pragmatic-strategic approach to social practices with feminist epistemological perspectives. We argue that their social places and conditions of production –especially related to the moment of feminist advancement and the institutionalization of sociology– made possible their academic and militant practices, the recognition they obtained and the restrictions they faced.
