The social bases of educational achievements in Argentina are studied, and the ―persistent inequality‖ hypothesis is examined. Five national samples of adult population –from 2003 to 2007- were merged. Different methodological approaches seek to answer different questions posed in the literature. The effects of parent‘s education and fathers‘ occupational status on their offspring‘s education are first explored by linear regression equations. Then, achievement of a educational level, after a lower level was completed, was analyzed by means of logistic regressions. Finally, the study of intergenerational educational mobility rested on multi-way association models. Findings support the ―weak‖ version of the persistent inequality hypothesis: the reduction of the origin-education association is moderate.
