The paper studies the methodological design logics of the long sixties, in order to investigate their influence on the contemporary teaching of architecture. It is approached with a qualitative and interpretive focus, supported by the history of architecture and design; to analyze the shift from disciplinary knowledge towards methodologies supported by science, technology and systems. It explores key contributions from the first generation of design methods theorists and discusses their assumptions of rationality, sequentiality, and planning. In turn, the notions of idea, parti and system are examined in their operational characteristics for the teaching of architecture. Finally, it proposes to problematize these legacies and reflect on the impact of their reproduction, in order to strengthen the theoretical and methodological value of the design process in current academic contexts, as specific disciplinary knowledge and as a mediation in design education.
