This article, in essay format, is framed in the tradition of studies on the right to higher education, in particular problematizing entry to university in Argentina. This issue is located at the center of the agenda of contemporary educational policy discussions based on a paradoxical situation. On one hand, the sanction of compulsory secondary education generates a context of expanded demand for access to higher education. On the other hand, the analysis of data available for our country indicates that the massification achieved for admission does not correspond to the data referring to permanence and graduation. Trying to contribute to these discussions, this article focuses on the different modalities of regulation of university admission that national universities in Argentina have organized. Some of the starting questions are: what type of devices have been designed in national universities in Argentina to regulate access to the level, what characteristics do these devices have, what are their purposes? From the construction of a map of the entry devices, trends are identified in terms of formats, disciplines, duration, and evaluation modalities provided. Building possible futures for higher education implies, among other challenges, responding to new demands so that the right to higher education stops being an unfulfilled promise for historically excluded sectors.
