This paper deals with gender stereotypes in Greek texts about war legislation. My goals are the following: 1) to study the image that juridical discourse builds around women as main victims of war; 2) to analyze the reception of such discourse in modern historiography; 3) to point out the presence of certain gender stereotypes that hinder thinking about women as warriors; 4) to identify the contexts in which Greek women could function beyond the stereotype of victims of armed conflicts. In order to pursue this research, I have drawn from the contributions of modern international law from a gender perspective. As for the sources, I have tried to cover several testimonies taken from various discourse genres such as historiography, philosophy and tragedy.
