The highest concentration of calf-producing bellies in Argentina is in Cuenca del Salado, Buenos Aires province. Argentine creole cattle are, nowadays, a minority in that region. It is recommended the application of early bred in 15 months old heifers (EPP24) in order to improve productivity. Aiming to test this statement, two groups of Creole Breed calf-producing bellies, one with age at first calving of 24 months (EPP24, i.e. early bred; n=92) and the other with age at first calving of 36 months (EPP36, i.e. traditional bred; n=100) were evaluated. In addition, three categories according to calving point within the calving season were differentiated (head -CA, body -CU and tail-CO). The variables length of productive lifespan in months (LVP), total number of calves (NCT), total meat production (PTC) and weaning weight for first calf (PD1) were estimated. The statistical test did not detect significant differences between groups for none of the variables due to the intrinsic data variability. Nevertheless, differences in means between categories were found for PTC and PD1 being the CO-heifers the most productive. The less productive cows, identified with NCT≤3 was the 28% for EPP24 and f the 23%or EPP36, whereas the most productive, those with NCT≥10, were the 37% for EPP24 and for EPP36, the 50%. The average additive relationship coefficient (aZY) for the 192 cows were 0.037 being 0.13 for those chows with NCT=1, almost four times higher than the first one. The more unprofitable calf-producing bellies were those more genetically uniform while the most profitable shown more diversity. In general, early bred heifers did not improve the overall herd productivity in comparison with traditional bred heifers.
