Silence can be understood as a reverse of the spoken word that is usually unattended, but still present in some philosophies that propose alternative conceptual landscapes to that of the Western rationality. In this article we will explore the works of Rodolfo Kusch, Gilles Deleuze and Michel Foucault with the objective of constructing a philosophy of silence. Silence will be thought as a space of possibility for new communitarian modes of being, different to that of an intersubjectivity interpreted as a rational dialogue between egological consciousnesses. In this way, silence reveals itself as a key element to think otherness, friendship and community. The concept of the “Other as a possible world” in Deleuze and the sketches of a silent friendship in Foucault resonate with the persistent presence of silence in the american philosophy of Rodolfo Kusch. Finally, at the crossroads of the ontology of the estar in Kusch and the reading of Bartleby, the scrivener by Deleuze, we will search for some clues to think a philosophy of the comunity through silence. In order to do so, we will take into account the concepts of negation and vegetality in Kusch and the missing people and the virtual in Deleuze.
