Análisis de la infestación por Triatoma infestans en la región de Los Llanos (La Rioja, Argentina)

Abstract

Triatoma infestans (Hemiptera, Reduviidae) es hematófago y vector del parásito Trypanosoma cruzi, agente etiológico de la Enfermedad de Chagas. Debido a que la prevención de esta enfermedad no puede realizarse por vacunas, la principal estrategia, es el control de los vectores. El control vectorial de los insectos triatominos consiste en la evaluación entomológica y el rociado con insecticidas piretroides de las viviendas rurales. El objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar la variación en la infestación por Triatoma infestans en el sur de La Rioja. Se utilizaron los datos georeferenciados de infestación generados por el Programa Provincial de Chagas de La Rioja en cada evaluación entomológica realizada en el área durante el período 2005-2011. Aunque se observa una disminución de la infestación intradoméstica por Triatoma infestans en el área, el efecto no es homogéneo. Se identifican áreas de infestación persistente durante el período evaluado. La mayor persistencia de infestación se observó en localidades pertenecientes al Departamento Gral. San Martín. Los resultados de este estudio permiten cuantificar el efecto de las acciones de control realizadas en el área y generan información útil para optimizar la planificación de estrategias de control vectorialTriatoma infestans (Hemiptera, Reduviidae) is a hematophagous insect and vector of the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite, etiological agent of Chagas disease. The objective of this work was to analyze the variation in the infestation by Triatoma infestans in the south of La Rioja. The georeferenced infestation data generated by the Provincial Chagas Program of La Rioja in the area during the 2005-2011 period were used. Although a decrease in intra-domestic infestation by Triatoma infestans was observed in the area, this effect is not homogeneous. Areas of persistent infestation are identified during the observed period.The greatest and most constant infestation was observed in different towns of the Gral. San Martín Department. The results of this study allow for a quantification of the effect of the controlling actions carried out in the area. They also generate useful information to optimize the planning of vector control strategies.
