Since the 1980s, as part of looking back on the human rights violations perpetrated by the military dictatorship, recent history has been treated as an anomaly and remembering the atrocities as imperative to avoid repeating the past. An analysis of the newsreels Sucesos Argentinos and the propaganda films made during the dictatorship (1976-1983) reveals that the “need to remember” was an argument previously used in audiovisual discourses on guerilla fighters by the military juntas.
