This article focuses on the discourse of liberal political weekly magazine El Periodista de Buenos Aires -published in 1884 for the first time- about the “ military issue”, from its very start to the early months of 1985, on the imminence of the so-called Juicio a las Juntas. Among the conclusions drawn by our analysis, we should mention: the magazine’s request to the national government in order to advance with the investigation and judgment of military officers involved in illegal repression operations. Also, it depicted the military character by its participation in the illegal repression and by its attempts to carry out a coup d’etat in democracy. Additionally, it favored the allegation of governmental-led and parliamentary-led institutional reforms and in support of minority military sectors, who defended the reforms and prosecutions of criminal acts in the Military forces. To conclude, the magazine made of the press denounce a tool to expose, starting in its dramatic covers, the menace represented by “golpismo” to the democratic subsistence.
