This research analyzes the National Congress on the History of the Conquest of the Desert (Argentina) held whitin the framework of the centenary celebrations held in the city General Roca the Alto valletana in 1979. Starting from memory studies, beyond its importance in the historiographical field, we understand it as a strategy of construction of hegemony carried out by the Argentine civil-military dictatorship, to install in the soul of the “national being and the Patagonian province of Río Negro” a warlike logic, a tolerable and necessary violence in pursuit of Western and Christian civilization, and, a scientifically justified position.
