Over twenty years ago, Galafassi proposed the category 'pampeanization' to describe the productive, social, and environmental transformations of the Lower Paraná Delta. Concomitantly with the emergence of the environmental issue, its use expanded to become a descriptor that allows questioning productive practices throughout the region. However, I find it necessary to critically reflect on it and think about its relevance to characterize these transformations. Based on a documentary analysis, I initially set out to historicize the category 'pampeanization' to inscribe it in its unique contexts of production, circulation, and consumption. Subsequently, based on an ethnographic analysis, I set out to evaluate its empirical relevance in the Lower Delta. I highlight the need to differentiate between processes of 'terrestrialization' and 'pampeanization', and I warn about its relevance to produce socially committed situated knowledge that contributes to the debate on the construction of historical projects specific to the island(s) and the islanders.
