The distribution of uniparental lineages in three cosmopolitan populations of Patagonia Argentina was analyzed. Two populations had been partially studied by determining mitochondrial maternal lineages by RFLP: Comodoro Rivadavia (CR: N=72) and Esquel (ESQ: N= 58) and a third sample was taken from Puerto Madryn (PM: N=77) untested so far. The participation of Amerindian, African and European maternal lineages was estimated by analyzing mitochondrial haplogroups (Hg) and the Y-chromosome M3 mutation to evaluate the Amerindian paternal contribution. The three populations showed a high native mitochondrial contribution (CR=73%, PM=64% y ESQ=78%) and a minor paternal contribution of the same origin (CR=6%, PM=5% and ESQ =22, 7%), were detected. This is related to unequal gender indigenous contribution wich is a process widely observed in Latin America. The European component was represented mainly by the presence of Hg H (CR = 14%, PM = 17% and ESQ = 7%). In other hand, SubSaharan contribution was low, with values below 2% for L1 and L2. These observations were consistent with demographic and genealogical information from donors.
