This article aims to acknowledge the relevance of some of the central concepts of two of the most outstanding exponents of Latin American Structuralism and Dependentism, such as Celso Furtado and Ruy Mauro Marini, to analyze the limits and possibilities of “neodevelopmentalist” projects in Argentina and Brazil, both severely questioned in recent years as economic structural problems reemerged and progressive governments were replaced by conservative ones. This recovery of two of the most important intellectuals of Latin American critical thought does not imply ignoring big changes that have taken place in the general framework in which regional economies are inserted from the time these authors lived, but rather it is about identifying which categories are still productive to analyze the situation of the region in a new global economic context.
