The present work intends to introduce the reader into Gabriel Marcel’s metaphysics through its proper way of thinking: the secondary reflection. The ontological can be grasped only by a thought that surpasses the subject-object distinction, and its practical-technical intention, in order to recognize the participation of the existent on Being by concrete experiences. While primary reflection remains chained to the problematic, secondary reflection is bound to the metaproblematic or the mysterious. The main question, however, lies on the possibility of this secondary reflection, and we must follow the French thinker in reference to the way of giving of Being: as an ontological exigency, as a security and as a blind intuition. That’s why thought cannot grasp Being, but freedom, which will recognize It by opening to It, or it will deny It by positioning itself as autarchic. So, metaphysics is for Marcel a “Logic of Freedom”, and looks for the restitution of the ontological weight of human experience, discovering the consistency of existence.
