In the year 2006, the National Law 26.150 of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (Educación Sexual Integral, ESI) is passed, establishing the right to receive education on the subject at all levels of the education system, in both public and private establishments. Nevertheless, said law does not inaugurate sex education in schools. It rather reconfigures a scene of practices, discourses and actors. In recent years, we have witnessed in Argentina an ideological struggle regarding ESI, due to the fact that it underscores a way of understanding sexuality which not only considers its biological and reproductive aspect, but also incorporates a framework of rights, such as the right to decide how to live and enjoy sexuality. In this paper, I will address two main issues causing dispute regarding sex education: the relation among State, school and family; and that of “gender ideology” versus “gender perspective”. My aim is to lay out a set of analyses and proposals to show how those struggles relate to educational practices and the challenges which are posed to schools in this scene of antagonistic discourses and political actions
