This article reconstructs some features of Argentina transition to democracy period at local level. In particular we study General Sarmiento, a former party located in the northern part of Buenos Aires metropolitan area, between 1981 and 1983. As a hypothesis, it is argued that the process of political opening and liberalization began before the Malvinas War and that this was due both to dynamics typical of local political life and to the application of directives and situations of national scope. From the replacement of the local government in 1981, a period of liberalization and political reopening began, as evidenced by the formation of the cabinet, the functioning of the political parties and the leaders’ statements in the local press. This demonstrates that the chronologies and dynamics that historiography has pointed out for the national scale are not replicated exactly at the municipal level.
