This work exposes the contextualization of waste in a micro-region of the province of Misiones and another of the state of Pará in Brazil. The legislations related to waste management are shown for each geographical area, focusing on municipalities far from urban centers and with low population needs, called peripheral municipalities. The methodology applied for the research is exploratory, with a comparative approach between municipalities in a micro-region of Argentina and another in Brazil. The objective of the work has been to compare waste management in peripheral municipalities of both Latin American countries, mainly in relation to population density, as well as current legislation and per capita waste generation. Without a doubt, waste management proves to be a current social problem for both territories analyzed, where the peripheral municipalities present similar conditions of progress in terms of waste management in both states of the different countries, despite the fact that waste legislation from Brazil are more recent than those from Argentina.
