Introduction: Psychic nesting is a psychic process carried out by the mother during pregnancy that implies the psychic registration of the presence of the baby within her own body. When this process is affected, it can alter the subsequent maternal registration and the mother-infant bond. Objective: To study psychosocial and relationship problems in women with difficulties in psychic nesting during pregnancy. Methodology: 157 pregnant or postpartum women with difficulties in psychic nesting have been interviewed through the perinatal psychological interview. Results: difficulties in psychic nesting are more frequent in non-new mothers and young adults. Before the birth of the baby’s bond, we find early difficulties, breastfeeding difficulties, feelings of seeing the baby as a stranger, rejection of the baby, separation anxiety and feelings of guilt. Possible causes of difficulty in nesting were identified: being attached to or concerned about another child, rejection or ambivalence towards the pregnancy, physical health problems, lack of support from the partner, multiparity, twin pregnancy, family problems, uprooting, causes related to paternity, duels, economic problems. Conclusion: This work has made it possible to conceptualize the notions of psychic gestation and psychic nesting and to identify associated psychosocial indicators and problems.
