This article analyses the philosophical-political-economic positions of John Locke, Isaac Newton and Adam Smith in light of some concrete measures that each of them had taken in governmental positions. Through the study of their attitudes within the public function, we intend to illuminate some poorly-visited edges of the works of such important authors. In the case of Locke, we will focus on his answers to the attempt to re-coin and revalue English currencies. With Newton, his determinations as Warden of the British Mint regarding fraud and capital flight will be taken into account. Finally, the actions decided by Adam Smith as Commissioner of Customs of His Majesty in Edinburgh will be studied. With all this, we expect to make a contribution to the study of the links between theory and praxis in modern political economy.
