This article exposes the emergence of the gender category. Emphasis has been placed on feminist genealogy and its later (post) feminist developments. The transformation of the category of gender allows the irruption of the body as a problematic axis, both in its theoretical-epistemological and ethical-political aspects. The contributions of Simone de Beauvoir are taken as a starting point of a cartography that is drawn in a continuous text (without sections) so as not to interrupt a panoramic view. Its value lies mainly in the historical review rather than in the exegesis of the authors referred to, and in the reconstruction of the plot that interweaves the problem of the body.
