The article analyses Robert Walton’s thesis that the various ways in which post- phenomenology opens up to a theological horizon can be integrated into Husserl’s teleological principle as complementary motivations. He first makes explicit the extent to which Levinas’s philosophy conforms to this thesis. Then he shows, using the example of Patočka, another cosmological current in phenomenology that poses the question of the divine within the framework of a teleological principle different from the Husserlian one. He then determines the difference between the two ways of understanding the teleological principle. Finally, it indicates to what extent the cosmological version is more apt to integrate the deviations inherent in the dynamics of the teleological principle.
