The objective of this paper is to address the way in which Merleau-Ponty exposes his interpretation of Machiavelli's thought in light of the problematic of humanism and its repercussions in contemporary debates. Tothis end, the present work will focus on four points: the understanding of intersubjectivity from the recognition / conflict game and the way in which Merleau-Ponty sees in Machiavelli an ancestor of his own position, the relationship between politics andmoral beyond naive moralism and political cynicism, the way in which Merleau-Ponty establishes a relationship between Florentine and Marx's thought based on the idea of a "real humanism" and, finally, will address the opposition between a cyclical understanding and a dialectical understanding of historical temporality.
