The article analyzes the strengths and challenges of the Casas de Atención y Acompañamiento Comunitario (Community Care and Support Centers, CAACs) of the Secretaría de Políticas Integrales sobre Drogas de la Nación (Secretariat for Comprehensive Drug Policies of the Nation, SEDRONAR), implemented in Argentina since 2014. We propose to understand this experience as a «bottom-up» policy, as CAACs emerged in 2008 through the initiative of civil society organizations—primarily located in the Área Metropolitana de Buenos Aires (Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, AMBA)—and were subsequently recognized, funded, and supervised by SEDRONAR, achieving nationwide scope. The methodological strategy was qualitative and based on the analysis of a corpus constructed over seven years of fieldwork (2018–2025) in different CAACs belonging to social and religious organizations in the AMBA. Data production techniques included semi-structured interviews with coordinators, professionals, and peer support workers; participant observation; and workshops organized with key stakeholders. The results show that CAACs stand out for their accessibility, comprehensive approach, community participation, team composition, and the development of specific interventions to address complex issues. Among the main challenges identified are difficulties in systematizing interventions, building a common language within a transdisciplinary approach, and defining their specificity in working with vulnerable populations.
