In recent decades, studies on metaphor have increased. It has been understood not as a style resource, but as a conceptual mechanism, one of the most important factors of linguistic change. Lakoff and Johnson book (1980) worked as a trigger that shot this novel conception of metaphor and all the subsequent theoretical developments. One of the paths that these inquiries have traveled is the analysis of various metaphors in corpora of different discourse genres. In this paper, some metaphors about language, present in texts of science, will be analysed. They will be called metametaphors. Texts that constitute the corpus of this analysis are scientific-academic articles taken from the last three numbers published of three scientific journals found in Dialnet, containing philological and linguistic studies. It is concluded that the use of metaphors is common in science studies of language and shows a particular construction of the object of knowledge. Object of knowledge 'language' is conceived, in most cases, as a person and as an object that is manipulated/produced by the speaker.
