With the aim to contribute to the understanding of the organization of pottery production in the societies of the highlands of the Jujuy province, we characterize the sequences of procedures employed in the manufacture of ceramic vessels in two areas, the southern Pozuelos basin and the Santa Catalina area, for late prehispanic and colonial times. The methodology designed is based on the different steps of the operative sequence, in order to recognize recurrent manufacture practices that allow us approach the technological traditions. The materials analyzed include ceramic fragments from excavations and surface recollections, as well as complete vessels deposited in museum collections. Macroscopic, submacroscopic and microscopic attributes of these materials were registered. The results allow us to formulate hypothetical operational sequences and the hypothesis that the ceramic production of the area would have been essentially of domestic kind in an agropastoral productive context.
