This paper presents the transformations of lower rank territorial settlements (LRS) in Tandil, identified and interpreted from the point of view of the renewal of urban-rural linkages. The development of new processes shows the need to overcome the univocal vision of the LRS as rural-area service centers. Without losing this function, the development of other functions articulated to the demands of spaces and urban actors, show the complexity of situations that are emerging in the construction of new territorialities and become a new challenge for sustainable local management.
