This article seeks to study in a comparative perspective the presidential discourses that realize Presidents Nestor Kirchner (Argentina, 2003- 2007) and Lula da Silva (Brazil, 2003-2006) in relation to the worlds of labor and unions. The selection of these cases aims to control two hypotheses: first, to find out to what extent the historical link that these two political forces had with the world of labor still persists discursively; secondly, to observe whether the notions of work, workers and their trade unions that both Presidents construct discursively occupy a nodal place in theirs proposal of «political change». To address these issues, this paper analyzes from a comparative approach –that combines qualitative and quantitative methods–, all the public speeches of Kirchner and Lula, pronounced during their four years term.
