The aim of this essay is to examine republicanism during rosismo throughout the main title associated with Juan Manuel de Rosas during his administrations: The Restorer of Laws. In the first part, it analyzes the history and uses of this designation. In the second part, it examines the idea of restoration as a problem of rosismo based on the question: which laws did Rosas restore? Finally, it examines the republican dictatorship during rosismo by investigating the relationship between legal order and exception. From a reflection on the republic and the figure of the leader as legislator, it seeks to show that, more than a paradox, from Roman antiquity onwards the history of republicanism is also related to authoritarianism through the problem of political personalism.
