In this review I tried to summarize 33 years of scientific research which started at the Laboratory of Experimental Leukemia, Institute of Hematologic Investigations, National Academy of Medicine, and then in 1995, to the creation of the Lab of Hormonal Carcinogenesis at the Institute of Biology and Experimental Medicine (IBYME). The origin of the experimental breast cancer model known as The MPA-induced breast cancer model is reviewed as well as the main discoveries and preludes that led us to design a clinical project to evaluate the role of progesterone receptors in breast cancer patients. Special emphasis is given to the imprinting that the first years of research had in the rest of the entire carreer.
