This article offers an ethnographic analysis of domestic living arrangements among young middle-class women in Greater Buenos Aires (Argentina), situated within the broader context of an intensifying housing crisis. Drawing on fieldwork conducted between 2015 and 2019, it examines informal familial arrangements that provide temporary and flexible access to housing, often mediated through intergenerational ties. These residential practices intersect with aesthetic strategies shaped and legitimized through social media, where influencers and digital platforms guide the curation of domestic space. The article argues that such practices give rise to a form of precarizing gratification: a subjective sense of achievement rooted in globally circulating aesthetic norms, which functions as symbolic compensation amid material decline. This compensation is enacted within a broader framework of structural instability and the lived experience of potential downward social mobility.
