Dataset for a meta-analysis to evaluate the Generalized Model of grazing effects on plant richness and diversity

Abstract

This repository contains the dataset compiled to test the predictions of the Generalized Model of grazing effects on plant diversity (Milchunas et al., 1988). It is based on a refined selection of the classic global collection originally generated by Milchunas and Lauenroth (1993), which had previously focused primarily on species composition. Please note that this version does not include all original studies; some observations were excluded to fit the specific requirements of this analysis. A dedicated column, "Reasons for dropping", is included in the dataset to detail the specific exclusion criteria for each omitted study. The final dataset quantifies plant richness and diversity responses (using response ratios) from grazed and ungrazed sites. It includes environmental variables (precipitation, temperature, aridity), grazing intensity, and duration of protection, among other variables.
