La reescritura del fenómeno maravilloso en el episodio de la doncella de Escalot

Abstract

En este artículo se analiza comparativamente el episodio de la doncella de Escalot en La Mort du roi Arthur, del siglo XIII y en dos versiones inglesas del siglo XIV: la Stanzaic Morte Arthure y Le Morte d´Arthur de Sir Thomas Malory. El episodio se estudia tomando como eje el tratamiento que recibe lo maravilloso en los sucesivos procesos de traducción y adaptación de la materia. Se establecerá hasta qué punto la forma por la cual los diferentes narradores estructuran el episodio determina el significado y el alcance del fenómeno maravilloso en cada obra.This article presents a comparative analysis of the maiden of Escalot episode in the thirteenth-century La Mort du roi Arthur and in two fourteenth-century English versions: the Stanzaic Morte Arthure and Le Morte d'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory. The episode is examined with a focus on the treatment accorded to the marvelous phenomenon along the processes of translation and adaptation. It is analyzed to what extent the structure that each narrator proposes for the episode determines the scope and meaning of the aforementioned marvelous phenomenon.
