In Paraguay, we do not currently have enough descriptive works on languages of oral tradition on the one hand, and on the other hand, there are no records available to native speakers of endangered language communities. This situation presents a constant challenge for many of those who speak and work with indigenous languages in the country. The lessons learned and achievements as well as the challenges still to overcome in the projects with indigenous languages from the National University of Itapúa (UNI) as of 2019 are presented for reflection and visibility. Above all, the methodologies that involve native speakers and non-native speakers in an intercultural and participatory dialogue in the process of developing research work that contributes to the study and heritage of the languages under study are highlighted.
