This article presents reflections on the identity experiences of boys and girls in a school context crossed by the territorial and community complexity of a rural area of Quebrada del Toro, province of Salta, Argentina. These reflections are the result of a research and university extension work promoted by the Center for Social and Educational Research of Northern Argentina of the National University of Salta. Assuming the perspective that considers children as social agents that give meaning to the processes that involve them, we took their artistic expressions, complemented with unstructured instances of dialogue, to understand experiences related to identity ascriptions. These inquiries allow us to structure the paper based on the concept of identity and to build bridges around the place of the territory and the educational institution in this process.
