In recent years, new forms of workforce management implemented pay-forperformance systems (PPS) as a form of salary individualization. The main objective of the article is to establish the use of PPS in multinational companies (MNC) of Argentina and its association with different characteristics of the company and the unions. A quantitative analysis was carried out based on surveys conducted in 2016 to MNC subsidiaries. Contingency tables were prepared to test the existence and statistical significance of the association between selected variables. The results indicate a significant positive association between SPR of high individualization and the categories: American origin, service sector, large and small world size, entry to the country after 2002, subsidiaries controlled by the headquarter, absence of union representation, low rates of union membership and non-negotiating policy with the unions. It is concluded that, faced with the advancements of the individualizing SPRs, the unions face the challenge of negotiating the best conditions for the incorporation of these strategies in favor of their workers.
