Five years after finishing a research on Ruth Mary Kelly, a pioneer fighter in the defense of the labor rights of sex workers, I received a judicial file that had her as a protagonist. In it, she denounced police exploitation and humiliation in Isla Maciel. Thus, this paper deals with the judicial file in question, offers a reading of it through an anthropological lens that allows to recover the broader context of its production, and it also reflects on the place of time and the "finding" in the investigation: when does an investigation begin and when does it end?
