In recent decades, historical and social studies have returned on issues related to money and have shown that it has multiple uses and meanings that are based on social, cultural and moral dimensions that transcend its purely economic side. Building on these contributions, this article focuses on the links established with and through money by the workers of the Mar del Plata hospitality industry in the second half of the 20th century. Their work there was characterized by its multiple forms of remuneration. Based on interviews, collective labor agreements and judgments of the Mar del Plata Labor Court No. 2, we show that the money origin, the collection periodicity , the labor relationship type (employment or family, temporary or permanent), the worker’s age, gender, class, course of life, family composition, etc. they were combined in different ways and influenced the ways of use and the meanings that the actors assigned to money.
